5 Ways To Hold Onto A Summer State Of Mind Year Round
The days are getting shorter and the temperatures are starting to drop. The sun is still shining but there is that September chill in the air at times and Thanksgiving long weekend is "next month". There’s no denying it…It’s almost fall.
Looking on the bright side, it’s now time to break out your favourite booties and cozy knits. What’s more, fall’s seasonal colour changes are nothing short of amazing. Still, many of us are feeling a twinge of sadness as we bid summer a fond farewell. But who says we can’t hold onto that summer feeling all year long.
Regardless of the season, one of the easiest ways to maintain a summer disposition is to hold onto a few items, rituals or routines that feel like summer to you. Before you say so long to summer, read on for six simple ways to inject a little summer into your fall.
Keep wearing summer clothing
As it gets colder you won't be able to wear your sandals every day, but you can keep some items that can make a stylish transition. Wear your summer sleeveless tops or tanks with a sweater or jacket. Pair your neutral-coloured, ankle pants with a light-coloured pair of boots. Transition a dress to a tunic. With a bit of creativity and layering, you will find that you can continue to wear and enjoy some of your summer items.
Eat like it’s still summer
When the weather is warm, we tend to eat more salads, fresh fruit and veggies. Why not continue the trend, visit your favourite farmer's market and substitute what’s fresh for this season? And let’s not forget our warm weather beverages. If this summer you loved lemonade, pressed juices or rosé all day, I say why let the calendar stop you?
Put your fresh face forward
Many people feel as though they look better in summer because when we’re sun-kissed, our hair lightens and our skin deepens. But even without those days at the beach, you can still look radiant. Go ahead and maintain your golden locks with the help of your colorist. Give your skin a boost with an illuminator, BB cream or bronzer. And my favourite tip? And add a crop of baby oil to your body moisturizer for a little extra glow all over.
Get outside in the fresh air and get moving
As temperatures start to drop, we spend more time inside. For many of us, this means less fresh air and less exercise. So even though it’s not 80 degrees, you’ll still want to go outside and walk around, even for short periods of time. Make it a point to stretch your legs at lunch. Or walk instead of taking the bus or driving. A little fresh air and exercise can clear the mind, relax the body and go a long way in maintaining a summertime sense of chill.
Keep the music playing
In summer, you listen to the happier and more playful types of music. But whether you realize it or not, there’s a good chance your listening habits change as the seasons change. To keep a summer headset, cue up your favourite summer playlist and continue to sing and dance along.
Picture this
Studies show that reminiscing about the summer, even long after it’s over, can bring you a sense of pleasure in the present moment. So, continue to share your favourite summer memories, places and experiences with family and friends. Keep your summer photos where you can see them and maybe choose one or more as your screen saver.
The truth is that every season has its good points and I have no doubts that you will soon be enjoying all that autumn has to offer. But until then, why not try to hold onto summer as long as you can.
